Home Learning at Greenvale School

Every student at Greenvale School can access homework. Greenvale school offers a opt in homework provision and this is offered at the beginning of each term. We do this because we recognise that our young people have individual needs and our families have differing requirements. For instance, some of our young people need highly structured environments for them to learn in a meaningful way. This may not be able to be replicated in the home.

Where a family opt in to receiving homework, it will be supplied by the class teacher and therefore it compliment the learning happening in class. As well as this, the homework will be set with the relevant individual targets that the young person is working towards in mind. There will be a sheet in the pack that is designed to encourage reciprocal and focused communication to ensure that the learning journey that the young person is on can be viewed by the family and school.

All parents have access to an extensive online resource library of more generic homework tasks that can be accessed at any time via a password. Within this portal, there are instructional videos, links to websites and downloadable resources and worksheets.

We will always do what we can to support the learning of our young people and recognise that learning happens everywhere and in many different forms. We also recognise that home learning for our young people can include increasing their self-help skills, self-regulation skills and their feeling of wellness. We work with the MDT team, social care and local organisations and thus ensure we take a holistic approach in promoting opportunities for learning for the ‘whole child/young person’.

We recognise that needs can change and develop over time and we welcome conversations with parents and families so that a meaningful and valuable homework provision can be created or sustained. As is in all cases, we would be happy to hear from you.
