Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) at Greenvale School
The Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) team at Greenvale School provides comprehensive assessment, intervention, and support for our students. Their work ensures that all students can develop and use their communication skills effectively, enabling them to thrive in their learning and social environments.
Communication Support
Every student at Greenvale has a‘Communication Advice’ document, which includes tailored strategies for supporting communication and specific targets to work on.
These strategies are integrated into the school day by staff, ensuring a consistent approach.
SaLT targets are included in EHCP short-term goals and are also embedded as termly communication targets in students’ IEPs.
Eating and Drinking Support The SaLT team provides guidance and training for students with eating and drinking needs, including:
Supporting students with swallowing difficulties.
Advising on the appropriate consistency of food and drink.
Creating individual advice sheets for students with specific needs, alongside training for staff to ensure safe and effective support.
Transitions The SaLT team also plays a key role in transitions to and from Greenvale School. This includes creating Communication Passports, which provide essential information about a student’s communication needs and preferences to support continuity in their care and education.
When are the SaLT Team in School? The SaLT team is on-site every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Collaborative Approach Speech and Language Therapists work closely with school staff, parents, and other professionals to ensure that all advice and strategies are aligned with each student's needs. We have a graduated approach to the services we work with at Greenvale School. Please see how this works in our Graduated Approach to MDT.
