The Sensory Teachers Team, part of the Specialist Teachers & Educational Psychology Service (STEPS), provides specialist teaching and support for students with sensory impairments, including Visual Impairments (VI) and/or Hearing Impairments (HI). The team is dedicated to ensuring that young people with sensory needs can access their educational environment, make meaningful progress, and achieve their fullest potential.
Who Supports Greenvale Students? Greenvale School benefits from weekly visits by:
Teacher of the Deaf, supporting students with hearing impairments.
Teacher for Children and Young People with Vision Impairments, supporting students with visual impairments.
Team Manager, providing support for students with Multisensory Impairments (MSI), where both hearing and vision are affected.
What Does the Team Do?
Assess students’ sensory needs to provide tailored support.
Deliver information, training, and advice to classroom staff to create an inclusive learning environment.
Contribute to EHCP annual reviews, ensuring sensory needs and aspirations are reflected in the student’s plan.
Referrals to the Sensory Teachers Team If a student has a diagnosed sensory impairment, Greenvale School can refer them to the service by completing the STEPS Request for Input form, available on the SLA online site. Referrals are also accepted from parents and other professionals.
