At Greenvale School, we are supported by a dedicated team of community physiotherapists who visit throughout the week to assist with the physical management of young people referred to the Physiotherapy Service. They support the young person in school by enabling them to participate in school activities, while working on defined individual targets. They work closely with the members of school staff, and help to educate and advise on specific physical activities most beneficial for the young person.
The physiotherapists collaborate closely with school staff, providing guidance and training on specific physical activities that benefit each young person. The class teacher is in contact with the named physiotherapist assigned to each child receiving physiotherapy support.
When are Physiotherapists in school? Physiotherapy staff typically work on-site during Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. However, they may also attend on Mondays or Fridays for specific training or handovers as needed.
How does the Physiotherapy Service work?
Each physiotherapist has named students they work with most closely but they also function as part of a team, offering advice and support to other students as required.
They liaise with families to address concerns and, when needed, may carry out home visits or attend external appointments as part of the young person’s overall management.
Physiotherapy assessments may take place in alternative locations if appropriate.
Physiotherapists provide advice on students’ physical strengths and needs to ensure their EHCPs accurately reflect their abilities and goals.
How to Access Physiotherapy Services Physiotherapy referrals are made by healthcare professionals for young people experiencing physical challenges that affect their daily function.
